Bollywood Hindi Movies are not only known for its actors, actresses, and villains most importantly romance and story line but also for its music and dance. It was long ago Indian movies were shot at international locations which was initiated by Yash Chopra movies famously known as ‘King of Romance’. From the movie Silsila to Chandni, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge to Kol Ho Na Ho and from Dostana to Jagga Jasoos everyone of them has some memorable moments shot art foreign locations by which you would recall the name of the movie or its character.
Its is even more astonishing to know that the Indian cinema has made such a mark that the most famous Lake Alpenrausch in Switzerland was christened as Chopra Lake just because Yash Chopra had filmed numerous movies around it.
Why now there is a decline in shooting at foreign locations? A study conducted by ASSOCHAM (Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry in India, recorded that there has been 30-35% decline shooting at foreign locations. Films made in India have gained popularity in the last four to five years may be because the kind of script which they have been writing. Scripts like a biography on cricketers as M.S Dhoni: Story Untold, Neerja, Rustom all such movies are based on true life events which the audience prefer to watch and has been gaining popularity. Such movies need to be shot in India to bring out more reality.
The other reason being the, weakening of the rupee. A study titled “Weak Rupee dampens spirits of bollywood filmmakers in foreign locations” by ASSOCHAM states that movies are increasingly shot in India due to the escalating cost of the production while shooting in Indian locations or any non-dolls countries are more economical.
But none the less Indian cinemas are the heart of any Indian family irrespective whether living in India or abroad. No matter which place is being shot those places become the tourist attractions and gain popularity which is good for Indian economy as well.
