26th September, 2017, Tuesday, is when Saudi Arabia announced this shocking news that their women will be able to drive from June 2018. Saudi women have been protesting for their rights for a long time now and to lift the ban on women drivers. It was a historic day for them and we cannot imagine the joy they must be feeling after hearing the news. Not only the Saudi women, people around the world took to social media and expressed their joy and congratulated the citizens. Many world leaders also expressed their views and gratitude towards them.

Ivanka Trump wrote, “Today is a historic day for women in Saudi Arabia as a decree was announced to lift the ban on women drivers. #SaudiArabia”

The reality TV star Kris Jenner said, “Congratulations to all women in Saudi Arabia! The ban on driving will be lifted next year & all women will have the right to drive #Progress”

Some even tried to troll the king by making jokes about the whole news. Ramesh Srivats wrote on his twitter account, “What the king said: Saudi Arabia will allow women to drive by June 2018. What the kin didn’t say: Hehe. By then we’ll have driverless cars.”

While the Kingdom is celebrating the uplifted ban, there are certainly other things that cannot be ignored. Taslima Nasreen, Bangladeshi author wrote, “Finally. Saudi Arabia announced today that it would allow women to drive. When would women be allowed to take off their burkhas permanently?”

The campaign leader who started the protest against the officials, Manal al Sharif wrote, “You want a statement here is one: “Saudi Arabia will never be the same again. The rain begins with a single drop” #Women2Drive <3”
